Everyone’s talking about Millennials, and businesses of all kinds are gearing up and adapting to attract and keep them as customers.
One example – McDonalds. That trusty old McDonald’s we’ve known and loved since we were kids. Remember the Big Mac Attack campaign? Actually there are probably some of you who don’t, because it was quite a number of years ago, but you still hear people use the term.
Millennials think, Meh…
Turns out Millennials don’t resonate so much with Big Mac Attacks or jingles about the special-sauce-lettuce-cheese-picklie-onions-on-a-sesame-seed-bun, either.
And I don’t know about you, but not only have I never visited a McDonald’s website – I mean, what the heck do I need their website for?? – I can’t imagine why I ever would.
And I thought home delivery was cutting edge!
However, not only has McD’s completely revamped their website, they even have an app now. And it’s been downloaded more than 12 million times. In order to appeal to millennials, who love videos, you can see videos of French fries, McNuggets etc. and they also have an official “food philosophy”, because Millennials “crave more information about what they eat.”
And of course they have “nutrition calculators” because Millennials are very health conscious and let’s face it, who thinks health food when they think Mickey D’s? This nutrition calculator is supposed to prove to them that some of the menu items are, in fact, healthy!
And here I thought McD’s was all about fast and cheap, and as long as they didn’t mess with the special sauce recipe, that’s pretty much all I cared about.
Appealing to Millennials and marketing to Millennials is an entirely different ballgame than what most of us are used to. Their values are different, what they’re willing to spend their money on is different and the way they relate to businesses they patronize is different.
So if you’re looking to target 21 to 38 year olds, the way you market to them has to be different, too.
There’s a Member call for that!
The December Members call is Just About Everything You Need to Know about Marketing to Millennials, and it’s scheduled for Wednesday, December 14th at 4pm Eastern, you can register right here right now.
You can do the research yourself or you can listen in and find it all in one place. I hope you’ll join us.
