Two days after the March 16th BUZZ email went out, I woke up with what I thought was a little head cold and slept for the next four days almost non-stop.
Had to ask Gina, my VA, to send out an email to reschedule the March Member call for what I thought would be a week, but a week later was still too out of it to manage even that.
In addition to the outpouring of get well wishes – thank you all so very much – more people registered for the call from that email than when the original invitation went out! What do you suppose is up with that?!?
So now the March and April calls have been combined and there’s more information below.
Thank you so very much again for all of your get well wishes – they made me smile and I’m sure contributed to my recovery!
Sales Choreography 101
Not much time, or quite frankly much inclination, to get anything accomplished over the past two weeks, and it’s kinda scary to literally lose two weeks of your life.
The most interesting reaction to that was to unsubscribe to just about everything, and I do mean everything. For both personal as well as professional emails. It made perfect sense: if I hadn’t read any of them for two weeks and it was unlikely I’d ever have time to, why not?
Do I really need one more Blueprint or Template, or to listen to one more webinar about list building or getting ten more clients in two weeks? Answer: NO. Buh bye!
Important Lesson: busying myself learning more meant less time to actually build my business. I was so concerned about missing something, missing that “magic bullet” that was going to “explode” my business, that I was sabotaging the business by spending all that time consuming more information instead of taking action.
It’s such an easy trap to slip into. You’re “doing something” you can tell yourself is going to improve your business, while at the same time not doing much that actually adds value or revenue.
Learning more, knowing more, collecting more information, etc. has its place and certainly can be useful. But you don’t need nearly as much “more information” as those who are disseminating it would have you believe.
What’s the lesson here?
Self-sabotage takes many forms. Keeping busy, particularly when it’s so easily justified, is a common way to get out of doing the real work.
And one reason we’re so susceptible to this particular form of sabotage is because we have only a general idea of what our supposed “goal” actually is or why it’s important to us to achieve it.
“If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up someplace else” (Yogi Berra)
In the last BUZZ we talked about how critical it is to know precisely what the goal you’d like to accomplish MEANS. And WHY. “To make more money, of course,” is not the correct answer.
When your goal is to “be more successful” or to “make more money,” neither of these is likely to happen if you aren’t really clear what it means and exactly why it’s important.
How do I make this work for me?
You have to be very clear on “What’s in it for me?” Your subconscious has to believe there’s something in it for you just like your prospects have to believe there’s something in it for them to commit to your program, product or service.
This is one of, if not THE reason you “do OK” but aren’t doing as well as you could.
When you’re really clear about what’s in it for you, the enthusiasm, motivation and desire to take action will show up out of nowhere. Unless, of course, there’s some kind of hidden benefit to not doing it. Which is a lot more common than you might think, because it doesn’t make any sense. We’ll talk about that, too.
